    Arrive Paro, Bhutan – Transfer to Thimphu

    The highlight of today's journey is crossing the spectacular Dochula Pass (3,100 meters). Here, 108 beautifully crafted memorial chortens known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens stand against a dramatic Himalayan backdrop. On clear days, enjoy breathtaking views of some of Bhutan's highest peaks, including Gangkar Puensum, the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.

    Continue through lush forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron before descending into the warmer subtropical climate of Punakha.

    Visit the famous Chimi Lhakhang, often called the Temple of Fertility. Built in honor of the eccentric saint Drukpa Kunley, this temple attracts pilgrims from across Bhutan seeking blessings for fertility, prosperity, and good fortune.

    Today is dedicated to exploring the historic and cultural treasures of Punakha Valley.

    Begin with a visit to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, considered Bhutan's most beautiful fortress-monastery. Built in 1637 at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River), it served as Bhutan's capital until 1955 and remains the winter residence of the Central Monastic Body.

    Admire its intricate woodwork, towering whitewashed walls, sacred temples, and beautiful courtyards filled with jacaranda trees during spring.

    Cross the impressive Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, offering spectacular views of the river and surrounding mountains.

    Continue to the National Museum of Bhutan, housed within the ancient Ta Dzong watchtower. Its extensive collections include sacred religious artifacts, ancient weapons, traditional costumes, thangka paintings, and exhibits illustrating Bhutan's history and culture.

    Tiger's Nest Monastery – Bhutan's Most Sacred Site

    Today's excursion is one of the highlights of any visit to Bhutan.

    After breakfast, begin the hike to the legendary Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang Monastery), dramatically perched on a vertical cliff approximately 900 meters above the Paro Valley floor.

    According to Buddhist tradition, Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) arrived at this sacred site on the back of a flying tigress in the 8th century and meditated here for three months, establishing Buddhism in Bhutan.

    The hike passes through fragrant pine forests adorned with prayer flags and offers increasingly spectacular views of the monastery clinging impossibly to the cliff face.

    Upon reaching the monastery, explore sacred temples, meditation caves, prayer halls, and viewpoints overlooking the valley below.
